From Mrs. Hughes on Friday, 9/16/22:
...The U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized Saint Paul Catholic School as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School! Saint Paul was recognized as one of 24 exemplary private schools among the 297 schools honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022. Private schools are nominated by the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) as being among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or national normed tests. We are one of ten Indiana Schools to receive the National Blue Ribbon School award in 2022 and one of three non-public Indiana schools.
Secretary Cardona made the announcement during his Return to School Road Trip, where he visited an awardee school. “I applaud all the honorees for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for creating vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school communities where students can learn, grow, reach their potential, and achieve their dreams,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have gone above and beyond to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. These schools show what is possible to make an enduring, positive difference in students’ lives.”
We are ecstatic to be one of 297 schools receiving this prestigious award. In order to be nominated, Blue Ribbon non-public schools are recognized as “Exemplary High Performing” if our student achievement in English and mathematics is among the highest in the country (top 15%), measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Schools are nominated for the award by the state department of education, and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices.
We received this award due to the enormous support from our Valparaiso community: the families and parishioners who support our hard-working students, faculty and staff both in our school and at home.
The Department of Education will honor 297 schools at a recognition ceremony in November. In its 40-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed 10,000 awards to more than 9000 schools in the U.S.
Way to go, Panthers!
